Dead outlet?Find the real fault.
A failed outlet or switch may be a worn device, but it can also point to a loose connection, a tripped protective device, damaged wiring, or trouble elsewhere on the circuit.

Common symptoms
More than simply on or off.
Buckeye Electric diagnoses outlets and switches that are dead, intermittent, loose, cracked, warm, noisy, or unable to hold a plug securely. We also troubleshoot GFCI devices that will not reset and controls that affect other outlets or lights unexpectedly.
The visible device is only one point on the circuit. Testing helps determine whether power is reaching the box, whether upstream protection has opened, and whether the wiring and connections are sound.
What we check
Device, wiring, protection, and load.
A useful diagnosis may include the breaker, GFCI or AFCI protection, conductor condition, grounding, box space, device rating, connected load, and other devices on the same circuit.
- Dead or intermittent receptacles and switches
- Loose plugs, damaged covers, or worn devices
- Warmth, discoloration, odor, buzzing, or crackling
- GFCI devices that trip or will not reset
Before the visit
Tell us what changed.
Note which rooms or devices are affected, whether a breaker or GFCI tripped, and what was running when the problem started. Clear photos help, but do not remove covers or touch damaged wiring to get them.
For smoke, active arcing, or fire, get outside and call 911. For heat, odor, or visible damage without fire, stop using the device and call an electrician promptly.
